Hello dear reader,
I am writing again to give you fresh news because I have finally found the time, energy and faith to believe that my blogs will make a difference. As Mahatma Gandhi said: "Everything you do in your life, even if it seems a lot, is only a small thing, but it is very important that you do it"!
It will be 5 years in March 2016 that I have been living and working here in Medellin, Colombia. I have learned a lot about this very contrasted and paradoxical country. It has nothing to do with Europe and even less with Switzerland. I should add that the differences are vast and sometimes I wonder if I am living on the same planet. During all this time, I was able to learn and understand what the real needs of this country are and my true calling to mitigate any gaps that causes this country to advance so slowly. In fact, what this country needs is a good old education with Judeo-Christian values and not the humanist ones that are taught everywhere at this time. This is the type of education where the true human comes out with its freedom and discipline, respect and kindness towards all. Here lies the secret of happiness for individuals, families, cities, regions and finally the entire earth. Speaking of nations, Colombia is one in a state of war at various levels: social, educational, economic, political and spiritual. The result is that families are broken with children abandoned to their fate, living with only one parent, the mother most of time. A little while ago, I went with an organization called ILI (Institute of International Leadership) in a popular neighbourhood of the city of Medellin called La Sierra, not very far from where I live in fact. It is an infamous neighbourhood because of the violent conflict that has been going on since the 1950's when the two parties, conservative and liberal, started a civil war that left its dirty print until today.
There is also the fight between the FARC (Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces) against the regular Colombian governmental troops, the ELN (National Liberation Army) independant faction fighting also against the central Colombian government forces, the para-military forces that normally fight alongside the Colombian government. All this to say that for a country that has been at war for so long it is not doing too bad with its 26th economic rank at the world level. Eventhough this profits only to the rich, the day when those who can and want to really experience democracy, Colombia could become a power if not on a global scale at least in South and Central America. To go back to La Sierra, I wanted to talk about the abscence of parents in the home. In this neighbourhood, we gathered about 20 kids to practice sports. The leader or our organization (ILI) asked the question to the children: "Who lives with both parents?" Two hands went up. Who is living for the father only? Again 2 hands went up. The rest of these children live with their mom only, that is 16 over 20 or 80%. Is there a family crisis? You bet! We want to challenge that and do something for these youngsters and before losing them completely to the various vices and addictions prevalent nowadays. We want to try and do the apparantly impossible thing, that is to educate this youth giving it the hope of a better life with dignity and productivity in every way for the Colombian society. Time is short and we are hard pressed, because if we do not do anything today, tomorrow might too late. But we know that it is not too late, for the Lord of Heaven and Earth is with us wherever we go and whatever we do to advance His Work, Matthew 28:20: ...and behold I am with you always until the end of days (times).
That's it for today!
Until next time for new adventures and stories.
